American visitors in the Ebro Delta
Less than a month after the last sighting of a Wilson's Phalarope in the Ebro Delta, another two shorebirds from the other side of the Atlantic have been drawn to the area. On the 27th of May a Pectoral Sandpiper was found in the organic rice fields of SEO/Birdlife at Illa de Riu, and on the 28th a White-rumped Sandpiper was found in another field in the same area. The lucky finders were Cristian Jensen and David Bigas, respectively. Both birds have subsequently been searched for by several local birders, yet only the White-rumped Sandpiper showed up briefly on the 29th of May. Whether the same weather conditions have brought all three birds in our direction simultaneously is of course speculative, but surely we are hoping for more...we will keep you posted!
